Ever wondered what happens when a Naagin and Cheel consummate their marriage? Well, Ekta Kapoor’s Naagin universe introduces us to its spin-off, Kuch Toh Hai, and has all the answers to it. The show stars Krishna Mukherjee and Harsh Rajput in lead roles. The show establishes the protagonist and the story premise in the first episode. While more or less, the fascination with supernatural beings remains the centre, with the spin off, Ekta is back to exploring the college drama after a long time on Television. With Kuch Toh Hai, Ekta returns with a teenage drama set amid a college backdrop. This is the first time that college drama has been introduced in the Naagin franchise and that in itself is intriguing.
The show leaves the audience with a lot of questions in the first half of the episode. Priya (played by Krishna Mukherjee) is shown to be an orphan with superpowers, self-healing powers. The source of her powers is unknown but a subtle hint tells us she will transform into a shape-shifting snake eventually. What was her relationship with Bani (Surbhi Chandna) or is there any connection between the two is yet to be known. Priya is supported by her orphan warden, whom she regards as her mom/ma’am. The warden sends Priya to Mussoorie to find out about her mother, fearing the revelations of her superpowers will put Priya in danger.

Enters Rehan (played by Harsh Rajput), a stud who is aware of the attention he holds on girls. By the end of the episode, it is established that he is the love child of VAni and is destined for darkness. Guess who will be his light? Of course, Priya. So yes, it is an amalgamation of cliches and myths but it works for the show. Krishna and Harsh together definitely look promising. Both play Priya and Rehan with conviction. While Krishna looks seamless as Priya, Harsh pulls off the charm well. However, he might have to work a little more on highlighting the dark side more.
The VFX for the show is decent but can be worked upon. There are many secondary characters who can work against the show. The dialogues are too full of cliches. The DoP, however, delivers some beautiful shots and must get a mention.
Kuch Toh Hai’s central theme remains the unparalleled love story of a Vampire and a Naagin. Also, Priya’s powers are style a mystery.
All in all, we definitely are looking forward to this spin-off, which promises a new world, unlike the other five seasons. What was your assessment of the first episode? Thumbs up or down?
