Actor Vishal Singh came into the limelight with his impressive portrayal in the show Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. Post that, he took a little break during the lockdown focusing on family business. But now, he is back to acting and currently Vishal Singh is seen in the Zee Tv show Lag Ja Gale.
The show stars Namik Paul and Tanisha Mehta in the lead and Vishal Singh plays a pivotal part in it. Recently, he got in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble and spoke about his experience. He also discussed his break during the lockdown and his desire to do Bigg Boss. Excerpts from the interview:
How has been the experience of working on the sets of Lag Ja Gale?
“It has been very good and the character I play has been very challenging. He belongs to an underprivileged background but he has dreams to be a big person. He comes to Delhi for that and meets Tanisha’s character. She hires him at her dhaba and he becomes her rakhi brother. And then he falls in love with her younger sister. It is an amazing track and there are some big revelations that are to come.”
Did the big aspirations of your character provide a relatability as you also came to Mumbai with big dreams?
“Since the starting, I wanted to make it big in life either as an actor or a cricketer. I was good in the sport but my friends would tell me that playing in the sun will affect my skin. So, I should rather focus on acting. We see in films that you come to Mumbai and become an actor. But when I came to the city around 7 years back, I realised that’s not how it is. It takes a lot of efforts and hard work to reach that place.”
After doing Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, you took a break during the lockdown. You went back to your home to handle your family business. Did coming back to acting with Lag Jaa Gale gave you those initial jitters all over again?
“I never left my practice even during this while. I had done theatre for 3 years before and I took the learnings from that phase with me. There was a little disconnect for about 5-6 months, but I still used to play harmonium to practice my voice modulations.
However, during the initial days on the sets of Lag Jaa Gale, I did have a bad day. I was yelled at by my producer Sandiip Sikcand for that. I had three scenes that day, and all 3 of them went very bad. I had been shooting continuously for a few days before that, and maybe that affected my performance.
I did get shouted at for that, but getting yelled at by people like that actually helps. Sandiip sir is like my mentor and he gave me this opportunity and this show. A few days ago I spoke to him and said that I don’t know what was wrong with me that day. And I promised him that I won’t let him down ever again. I love and admire Sandiip sir and I have learnt a lot from him.”
How is your equation with Tanisha off set?
“It’s a very good equation that we share. She is very sweet to me. We didn’t have much interaction on the first day, but gradually our bond got stronger. She doesn’t have any air around her of being a lead and she is always very sweet.”
Do you plan to switch to more lead roles soon?
“I just want my characters to be noticeable, be it lead, parallel or even a villain. I want people to feel that I am a good actor because of my work. The response till now to my character in Lag Ja Gale has also been really good.”
What is your vision for Vishal as an actor?
“My nearest goal is that in 2023, I want to be a part of Bigg Boss. I tried last season as well and got shortlisted for being a wildcard. But the people there suggested to me that I should start in a new season from the first day and not as a wildcard. They said I have that capability. So, this year, I will try for that.”
