BR Chopra’s ‘Mahabharat’ has been in the news since the time it has begun to re-run on Television. Fans are very excited as they reminisce over these nostalgic feels. ‘Mahabharat’ has always been extravagant and the scale on which it has made oozes grandeur in every bit. But, did you know what was the budget of this mythology show?
‘Mahabharat‘ was produced by BR Chopra and was directed by his son Ravi. According to a report by Hindustan Times, Ravi Chopra’s wife Renu recalled, soon after ‘Mahabharat’ had started, BR Chopra fell ill and the responsibility to execute it fell upon his son, Ravi. “He was only 36 years old at the time, but I believe it is his finest work,” says Renu.
Renu then revealed that the budget of each episode was Rs 6 lakh and Ravi would sometimes be worried about the budget. She said, “But Ravi told his father that however much he tried, he couldn’t bring it lower than Rs 7.5 lakh.” to which BR Chopra told him to not worry about the budget at all.
She also went on to reveal that it took more than a year to prepare for a project of this magnitude. Most of the shooting happened at Mumbai’s Film City. Except for the war sequence, which was shot near Jaipur.
