Mirzapur has landed into trouble for allegedly ‘maligning the image of Uttar Pradesh’. As per a report in NDTV, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the web series on Sunday night by journalist and writer Arvind Chaturvedi, whose hails from Uttar Pradesh. In the FIR, the charge is ‘deliberate and malicious intention of outraging religion feelings’. Also, it stated that the web series ‘portrayed the district in a bad light’. A team of UP policemen had reached Mumbai related to the case filed by the journalist. Even Supreme Court issued a notice to makers and producers of the web series and Amazon Prime Video, as per a report in ANI. The apex court is seeking a ‘response from the OTT platform and series makers’.

ANI’s tweet read: “Supreme Court issues notice to makers and producers of web series ‘Mirzapur’ and Amazon Prime Video, on a petition complaining about the portrayal of Mirzapur district, UP in a bad light in the web series. SC seeks response from the OTT platform and series makers”.

On the other hand, another team of Uttar Pradesh Police has arrived Mumbai and they were spotted at the residence of Ali Abbas Zafar, the director-producer of Tandav. They were there to serve him notice.

The cast and crew of Tandav faced a severe backlash for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of the Hindus. The Uttar Pradesh government and many BJP leaders slammed the makers and the team. FIRs were also filed against the makers. The team later issued an apology and also decided to implement the changes in the web series.
