It’s been more than three decades since Mita Vashisht entered showbiz, and over the past years, she has carved an identity for herself as a stellar performer. However, in an industry where dizzying heights can quickly give way to staggering lows, talent alone can’t help one survive. A balanced approach and even temperament are equally, if not more, crucial in the long run.
We recently had a video interview with the actress.
In another interview, we asked Mita about her good, bad and ugly experiences in the industry and how she has dealt with them. She said, “We work in a field which has many fragile egos. So, I just try to do my job and not let things get under my skin. Having said that, I am no paragon of virtue and I have lost my temper on many occasions. But, over the years, I have learnt to keep it (temper) under control and have also become much more detached about the final product. Like the Bhagavad Gita says, ‘Karam karo aur phal ki chinta mat karo’. It’s a wise advice because if you are always thinking about the end result, you cannot live and act at the moment. Also, today, I have a much more gentle and loving attitude towards my work.”
She added, “In this field, you have to be a compassionate person; you cannot bring your likes and dislikes into play when you are performing with someone, because it will spoil your inner mechanism and working. That’s why I feel that acting is almost spiritual — it’s all about detachment, serenity, and a great love for everyone. So, the ego doesn’t really come into the picture for me anymore. Yes, I can get a little stubborn about how I want to do a particular scene, but there, too, I deal with the situation differently now — I give options and try to perform in a way that the director will also approve of.”
