In April, actor Krishna Mukherjee shared a note saying that she was harassed on the sets of her Shub Shagun. Moreover, she even accused the producers of not clearing her dues which is around Rs 40 lakhs. Reacting to Krishna’s accusation, Pankhuri revealed that is quite common in the television industry and they have to fight for their money. During an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Pankhuri mentioned that even she has faced delays in payments and she feels it’s unacceptable.
Pankhuri talks about Television working hours
“TV is long working hours. We have a norm to shoot 12 hours a day and it is the same in movies too. The only difference is that movies are finite and you have 45 days schedule. You know you have to work during that time and then you’re free. TV has no end to it if the show runs successfully. For example, look at Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, the show is running from generation to generation and that’s a great thing. So many people are earning out of it.“
Pankhuri Awasthy reacts to Krishna Mukherjee’s accusation of producers
Talking about non-payment of dues, she said it is not acceptable. She said, “A lot of production houses do that once the show gets over, they delay payments and don’t pay you for your extra hours and it has happened with all of us and it is not a great thing to see. It has happened with me as well where my payment has got stuck. I have a friend whose payment has been stuck for years now and that is not a great thing. That’s our livelihood. I don’t think there’s any profession where they pay you 3 months later but in acting, we accept that, that we will get our payments 2-3 months later. But no one gets their payments immediately unless there’s a different arrangement.“
“Films are different as we get it in advance but such things happen in Television and you accept that rule. That’s why it gives the producers the leeway to delay the payments because even though the show ended three months ago, they have the bracket to hold your money and they do that which is not right. If she (Krishna) has said that they have not given her the payments then I’m sure that would have been the case. It is very common in TV, you have to fight your way to get your money and it is the sad reality.“
