A few days ago, fans of Kumkum Bhagya were left stunned as actress Pooja Banerjee’s name became linked to a money laundering case. Reports claimed that Pooja, along with Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat, had been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case involving a Pakistani betting website. Allegedly, this website had been illegally broadcasting Men’s T20 World Cup matches. It was reported that both actresses had already recorded their statements.
Pooja Banerjee issues a statement
Pooja has now addressed the matter, issuing a statement on social media in an effort to clear her name and seek justice. In her lengthy note, she asserts that she has been falsely accused and expresses disappointment in the media for failing to verify the facts with her.
Pooja made a statement saying, “Hello my dear well-wishers, A Very Happy New Year to all of you. I wouldn’t have wanted to put this up as my first post of 2025 but sadly the last few days have been rather disappointing and filled with remorse. I was recently falsely blamed for a money laundering case, sadly the news was circulated by almost all the media pages and outlets with my name, picture and my credentials.”
She further explained, “I wasn’t aware of this news as I was in South Africa with my family when the false allegations were made without any comment from me or my team. I was disappointed because generally all the media people who were in contact with me while I was working as an artist, would normally take a quote before putting up the news or were always eager to know about the show and its fate etc, sadly the same people wouldn’t even check with me whether the reports were true or not.”
Pooja Banerjee on her frustration with media
Pooja expressed her frustration with the media’s handling of the situation, stating, “I personally tried connecting with a lot of media people to tell them the truth, few of them heard me, few behaved as if it’s not their responsibility to do a cross-check on the news since it came from a ‘reliable’ source or even after publishing my news with my credentials and picture, they pretended they didn’t know me.”
She added that she had requested media outlets to acknowledge the inaccuracies, but her efforts were largely dismissed. “I tried telling a couple of them that please take it as a request to change the news or at least claim that you’ve made a mistake, I do understand human error after all but most of them wouldn’t agree since agreeing to the fact that they are wrong is so against their ego.”
The actress shared how the allegations have caused distress for her family and revealed their decision to pursue legal action. “My family members were extremely distressed with such a huge false allegation being spread all over the news that we have decided to go the legal route in order to clear my standing that no such breach of law was done by me and to all my family, friends and well-wishers I’m sorry if this false news has hurt you but I will stand against truth and make sure that this doesn’t happen with anyone and the media who still didn’t believe me, definitely do a double cross-check on such baseless reports. I request for everyone’s support in my cause.. #satyamevajayate 🙏🏻,” she concluded.
