Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan‘ was not only loved by the audience but they literally worshipped its lead actors as gods. Such was the impact o the show on viewers. Now that show is being aired on Doordarshan all over again, some very interesting facts and stories related to its actors are surfacing now.
Sunil Lahri, who played the role of Ram’s brother Lakshman in the show, recently revealed that though the show brought him a lot of fame it hardly ever paid him well. Yes, the actor said that despite the popularity of the show, the budget was low and hence they were paid peanuts.
Back in the 80s, television, as a medium was not that popular hence artistes working on the small screen couldn’t make that much through it. In a recent interaction with Aaj Tak, Sunil revealed that back in the day budget of television shows were very low hence the pay was also low. Without revealing the actual amount the actor said that they were paid peanuts. And that hint is enough for us to imagine how much these actors made by working on that iconic show.

Sunil also said that these days actors buy houses by doing shows, however, in those days they couldn’t even think about making a house even after completing the entire ‘Ramayan’.He shared that it was difficult to keep life secure during those days however now things have changed for good. The show originally aired on Doordarshan in 1987-88.
