Ranveer Singh’s on-screen sister Anjali Anand recalls people body shaming her, says ‘many assumed I gave sexual favours for work’

Popular TV actress Anjali Anand, who featured in shows like Dhai Kilo and Kulfi Kumar Bajewala, made her dream Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. In the flick she portrayed the character of Ranveer Singh’s sister Gayatri Randhawa. While the talented star is garnering praises for her portrayal in the family-entertainer, in a recent interview, she recalled the time when people used to suspect that she got roles in exchange of sexual favours.

Anjali Anand recalls people body-shaming her

In an interview, Anjali recalled that 10 years ago she had joined an acting school, and people would tell her that she will never become an actor. However, Anjali’s goals were always clear. “I said, ‘I don’t want to be the best friend who is eating burgers on the side, I want to be the lead of the show or whatever I am doing’,” she said.

However, she revealed that after landing her second lead role on TV, many people suspected that she had given sexual favours in exchange. “When I got Kulfi, which was my second show, people have DMed me, 100s of DMs saying ‘Who gives a fat girl a second show as a lead? I am sure she must be sleeping with someone’. And I am wondering, these people think you won’t get work without sleeping with someone? It is stupid that we are still talking about all of this,” she said.

In Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, there is a scene where Gayatri aka Anjali Anand confront her family for calling her Golu because of her weight and eating habits. Talking about the way Gayatri’s character was written, Anjali said, “There was an opportunity to turn the page and make that person come out and say it.“

Meanwhile, the actress recently appeared in reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 13.
