Wednesday began on a gloomy note for the Hindi TV industry with the news of the death of popular actress Vaibhavi Upadhyaya. Known for her role of Jasmine Mawani in Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2, Vaibhavi met with an accident on Tuesday. Her last rites will be performed on Wednesday in the city.
Vaibhavi Upadhyaya passes away in a car accident
The actress met with a tragic car accident on Tuesday morning reportedly. Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai creator JD Majethia announced the news of her passing on his Twitter. He wrote, “Life is so unpredictable. A very fine actress, dear friend Vaibhavi Upadhyay popularly known as Jasmine of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai passed away. She met with an accident in north. Family will bring her to Mumbai tomorrow morning around 11 am for last rites . RIP vaibhavi .”
According to a Times of India report, Vaibhavi was travelling with her fiancé in Himachal Pradesh. At a steep turn, their car lost control and the accident happened. Her brother rushed to the Northern stater after getting the news of the accident.
Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai team remembers Vaibhavi
Post the demise of Vaibhavi, her Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2 co-star Deven Bhojani expressed his shock on the news. He wrote on Twitter, “Shocking! A very fine actress and a dear friend Vaibhavi Upadhyay, popularly known as “ Jasmine “ of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai passed away. She met with an accident in north a few hours back. Rest in peace Vaibhavi.” Even Rupali Ganguly reacted to the tweet saying, “This is not fair ….. gone too soon ……”
Rajesh Kumar aka Rosesh Sarabhai, who played Vaibhavi’s love interest on the show was also shell-shocked on the news. He told Times Now, “ Kal Raat Ko Pata chala ki esi ghatna hai. Kal JD bhai ne update kiya tha. Uske baad se, I have not come to terms with Vaibhavi Upadhyaya’s death. Samajh mein nahi aaraha hai kya hua hai. Main toh abhi bhi uske photos wagera nikaal ke dekh raha hoon. (I got to hear of the unfortunate incident late last night. JD Majethia updated me with the sorrowful news. I have not come to terms with Vaibhavi Upadhyaya’s death. I an not being able to understand how to process the news.) It is more about losing such a wonderful person, friend. We were not regularly in touch, but once in a while, we used to forward something to each other from time to time. Interaction happened mostly during shooting. Bohut pyaari ladki thi. (She was a very sweet girl).”
Vaibhavi became a household name with Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2. Her funny Gujarati accent and risky English as her character Jasmine was widely appreciated. Condolences to her family.
