The first-ever SWA Awards 2020, was organized recently by the Screenwriters Association, to felicitate screenwriters and lyricists. It was hosted by Varun Badola and Rajeshwari Sachdev. The event focused mainly on the writers – with the jury members who were eminent screenwriters, directors and show creators.
We recently had a conversation with Varun and Rajeshwari where they shared their experiences on being part of this first-ever online awards show.
Varun said, “I don’t think anything like this has happened in our country ever before and whoever saw the show felt that it was so well managed and was crisp and to the point. People who attended the function stuck to the point and everybody spoke from their heart. There was a certain genuineness that made the whole show so relatable and that was the best part about it.”
Talking about the online awards amid this pandemic, Varun said, “This could be the new norm for the coming few months or for a few years. It was very well executed as far as SWA is concerned because to link everything up without any goof-up that was the biggest priority and it went so smoothly. It was commendable actually.”

Rajeshwari said, “It was a very big initiative and I feel proud to be associated with SWA. It was so different from the other shows. The kind of people who came on, the thoughts that were exchanged and everything that each one said made so much sense. I loved listening to everybody who came there and spoke. It was very well executed, well thought out and well planned. I really enjoyed working on this.”
