Emraan Hashmi On Playing Freedom Fighter Ram Manohar Lohia In Ae Watan Mere Watan

Sara Ali Khan is all set to impress the audiences as freedom fighter Usha Mehta in the upcoming historical biographical drama Ae Watan Mere Watan. While the hype surrounding Sara playing a character pivotal in fighting the British Raj in India is increasing, Prime Video has now unveiled ‘Showtime’ actor, Emraan Hashmi’s look from the film.

The upcoming historical drama – which pays homage to unsung heroes from the Indian Independence movement, will see Emraan play a part he hasn’t essayed to date – a freedom fighter. The ‘Tiger 3’ antagonist will bring to live the struggles of freedom fighter Ram Manohar Lohia.

A while ago, Prime Video took their social media accounts and unveiled the official poster of Ram Manohar Lohia. For the unversed, Lohia played a significant role in establishing and running the underground radio that was pivotal during the Quit India Movement. His dedicated to the country’s battle against the British Rai resulted in him being jailed, incarcerated and tortured multiple times.

In the poster, Emraan Hashmi looks nearly unrecognizable as the unsung hero. Check it out here:

Speaking about his character in Ae Watan Mere Watan, Emraan Hashmi said, “I have never before played the role of a freedom fighter, and getting the opportunity to step into the shoes of Ram Manohar Lohia was an absolute honour. I worked closely with Kannan and Darab and looking into the extensive research they did, understanding Lohia ji’s history and journey and add my own flair to it.” He continued, “His immense contributions have shaped a whole lot of India’s history and is truly remarkable. I am looking forward to the audience seeing me in this new avatar. It is a privilege to be a part of a story that not only needs to be told but will also inspire generations to come.”

A Dharmatic Entertainment Production, Ae Watan Mere Watan is a Kannan Iyer directorial. It stars Sara Ali Khan alongside Emraan Hashmi, Sachin Khedekar, Abhay Verma, Sparsh Shrivastav, Anand Tiwari and others. The film will premiere on Prime Video on March 21. It will be available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
