Made In Heaven 2: Zoya Akhtar shares their approach of focussing on strong female characters and an LGBTQIA+ theme

Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti revealed insights into the theme and female characters during the trailer launch event of Made In Heaven 2 on Tuesday.

Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur are ready to bring back the wedding season on our screens. They have finally unveiled the trailer of Made In Heaven 2. The first season was released back in 2019. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for the return of Season 2. Made In Heaven 2 is directed by the dynamic duo of Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, along with Alankrita Shrivastava and Neeraj Ghaywan. During the trailer launch event of Made In Heaven 2, directors Zoya and Reema opened up about how they have led the show through strong female characters and the LGBTQA+ community.

Zoya Akhtar spoke about the theme and the central conflicts explored in this season. She shared, “The central two characters of this season are Tara (Sobhita) and Karan (Arjun), who are non-conformists. Quite grey in a sense, with a very strong protective instinct towards anyone that comes into their life, and a strong moral compass that perceives things going wrong around them. This season is an extension of that. We also led the show through women and the LGBTQA+ community. It is an expansion of that theme. Basically, it is about trying to fit into society and doing good.”

Further, Reema Kagti shared how they wrote the strong female characters in the series. She said, “It’s basically us trying to explore different aspects of a society like ours, which has so much rooted in culture but is also changing and modernizing. We are obsessed with depicting the female experience from different angles, and that is what we are doing.”

Apart from Sobhita and Arjun the series also stars Jim Sarbh, Kalki Koechlin, Shashank Arora, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Vijay Raaz. The new additions to the show are Mona Singh, Ishwak Singh and Trinetra Haldar.

On the other hand, the brides for this season are Mrunal Thakur, Radhika Apte, Shibani Dandekar, Sarah Jane-Dias and Naina Sareen. Adding on Elnaaz Norouzi, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Zayn Marie Khan, and Sheena Khalid also star as the brides.

Made In Heaven 2 is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Media & Entertainment and Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s Tiger Baby. The web series will premiere on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video on 10 August 2023.
