aamir khan, mahabharata

Aamir Khan is busy promoting his production Laapataa Ladies, which has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars 2025. In an interview with BBC News, the actor shared his future plans, highlighting his vision for producing films, nurturing fresh talent, and his dream project, Mahabharata.

When asked about his roadmap for the coming years, Aamir revealed his ambitions, saying, “I really want to produce a lot more films and give an opportunity to young talent. I’ll continue acting. I usually do one film in 2-3 years as an actor, but in the next decade or so, I am hoping to do one film a year. I hope to produce a lot more films with the stories that I love.”

Aamir Khan about his next project Mahabharata

Aamir also spoke passionately about his dream of creating a cinematic adaptation of Mahabharata. He described the project as both inspiring and intimidating. “Well, that’s my dream project, and it’s a very scary project. So huge, and I am scared of getting it wrong. It’s a huge responsibility because, as Indians, it’s something so close to us; it’s in our blood. So I want to get it right. I want to make every Indian proud and I also want to show the world what India has. I don’t know if it will happen, but it’s something I want to work towards. So let’s see.”

Writer Anjum Rajabali had previously mentioned in 2018 that Aamir was developing this ambitious project, rumored to have a ₹1000-crore budget. The same year, Aamir exited the Rakesh Sharma biopic to focus on Mahabharata. However, the project is yet to materialise.

Aamir took a break from acting but is set to return with Sitaare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film stars Aamir, Darsheel Safary, and Genelia Deshmukh in lead roles. It is a sequel to the 2018 Spanish film Champions and is slated for a 2025 release. Currently in post-production, the film promises to mark Aamir’s comeback on a strong note.

With Laapataa Ladies competing at the Oscars, Sitaare Zameen Par nearing release, and dreams of Mahabharata in the works, Aamir Khan seems poised for an exciting new chapter in his illustrious career.
