Ranbir Kapoor is currently immersed in filming Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic epic-drama Love & War, while his highly anticipated mythological film, Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, progresses in the background. The actor had already completed the majority of his scenes for the mythological epic last year, and recent reports indicate that the production team is now filming certain sequences using his body double.
Ranbir Kapoor’s body double to shoot few of his scenes for Ramayana
According to a report by Mid-Day, a source close to the project revealed, “Ranbir has completed almost all his crucial scenes for the first instalment of Ramayana; only patchwork remains, which can be managed without him. Since his dates were assigned to Love & War, Ramayana’s production team planned the shoot in such a way that there are no delays. Right now, a few minor sequences are being filmed with a body double, after which it will be a wrap on the first edition.”
The ambitious mythological drama is being developed as a two-part film. It has been further disclosed that if all goes according to plan, the second instalment will commence filming in May. Given that Ramayana is a VFX-heavy project, director Nitesh Tiwari is expected to devote the next few months to extensive post-production work to enhance its visual effects.
The source also shared that the second instalment of the film is likely to go on floors during the summer, with Ranbir Kapoor set to rejoin the team by June.
Ranbir Kapoor about Ramayana
During his appearance at the Red Sea International Film Festival last year, Kapoor spoke about the magnum opus, calling it the ‘greatest story ever’. He also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating that he felt ‘humbled’ to portray what he described as a ‘dream role’. The actor also praised producer Namit Malhotra, a childhood friend, for assembling a top-tier creative team and crew for the project.
Alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Ramayana boasts an ensemble cast, featuring Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Yash as Ravana, among others. Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, the first part of Ramayana is scheduled to release on Diwali 2026, followed by its second part on Diwali 2027.
