Less than a week ago, the makers of Vicky Kaushal starrer Chhaava unveiled the tailer of the much-anticipated film and left fans with goosebumps. As the film inches closer to its release date and fans continue to be impress with Vicky’s portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had raised concerns over historical inaccuracies in the trailer. Vicky Kaushal starrer Chhaava in trouble?

During a recent interaction with PTI, Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati – a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and former Rajya Sabha MP, praised Chhaava for spotlighting the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He revealed that director Laxman Utekar had shared the trailer with him, and while he appreciated the effort, he expressed his desire to watch the full film before its release.

Sambhajiraje was quoted saying, “I also offered to connect them with historians to address inaccuracies to ensure this significant story is presented authentically to audiences worldwide.”

The descendant further highlighted specific concerns about historical liberties such as the lezim dance sequence shown in the trailer. While recognizing the cultural significance of lezim, he questioned its portrayal in the context of Sambhaji Maharaj’s dignity and legacy. He emphasized the need for experts to weigh in on the appropriateness of such creative choices.

About the film

Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Chhaava stars Vicky Kaushal as Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The film – an adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant, also features Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in pivotal roles.

The film – which boasts a musical score by AR Rahman, will release in theatres this Valentine’s Day, February 14.
